B-Sens lose late lead, skid hits 5

BINGHAMTON, N.Y.  The B-Sens fell in a shootout on home ice to the Hershey Bears 4-3 despite holding a 3-1 lead with under 15 minutes remaining in regulation.  David Leggio played another stellar game for the Bears stopping 39 of 42 Binghamton shots to give the visitors the bonus point in the shootout victory.

Hershey managed to take the lead when Patrick Wellar beat Binghamton netminder Andrew Hammond at the 3:52 mark of the opening period.  The Bears carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission with Leggio stopping all 13 shots faced.  Hammond shook off the early goal and turned aside five of the six Bears chances.

Binghamton came out firing in the second period, registering a total of 18 shots on goal.  Mark Stone notched his fifth marker of the year tying the game at one apiece 9:25 into the period.  Fredrick Claesson fed the puck across the goal mouth where Stone was waiting to flip it over the shoulder of Leggio knotting the game at 1-1.  Mike Hoffman gave the B-Sens its first lead of the night at the 15:55 mark of the second period on a power-play goal.  Hoffman took a slap shot from high slot which trickled in giving the hosts the 2-1 lead.  Hammond finished the second stopping all eight shots faced.

The B-Sens extended its lead to 3-1 just under five minutes into the final period of regulation when Andre Petersson sent home a cross-crease feed from Shane Prince.  However, Hershey tallied a goal exactly one minute later on Stanislav Galievs second of the season to cut the Sens lead to 3-2.  Hershey tied things up 12:23 into the period when center Michael Latta notched an unassisted goal sending the game to overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the teams moved to a shootout where Ryan Stoa and Galiev converted on their attempts while Leggio stonewalled all four Binghamton shooters giving the visitors the come-from-behind shootout win.  Hammond finished with 23 saves for Binghamton.  Both Hersheys Latta and Binghamtons Stone finished with a goal and an assist to lead their teams offensively.

Binghamton hits the road for three consecutive games following the loss. The first comes Friday when they visit the Utica Comets for their first of four meetings this season.  Saturday the Sens travel to Hershey looking for redemption at the Giant Center.  Binghamton will complete the road trip December 20 in Syracuse before returning to home ice on Saturday, December 21, to faceoff versus the Albany Devils.

Tickets for all B-Sens home games are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
