SciGirls Celebrate STEM
12/8/2013 (Updated 10:52:14 PM)While Science, technology, engineering and math may be seen as jobs for just men, the SciGirls of Binghamton are aiming to change that.
Fifth grade Students from Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Binghamton met at the studios of WSKG Sunday to celebrate their accomplishments in SciGirls, a program aimed at sparking young girls' curiosity in the STEM fields. Leaders say encouraging this type of learning at a young age is crucial.
"I think it's extremely important. the statistics in women in science and men in science are pretty glaring and every effort we can do to encourage girls and boys in science, technology, engineering and math is great," said Suzy Kitchen, challenge enrichment teacher.
The club is named after the PBS show SciGirls which can be seen on PBSKids.org.
