Fire Destroys $8000 Worth of Toys for Tots Donations

Fire officials are investigating what caused a blaze at a storage unit complex in the Town of Norwich that destroyed $8,000 worth of toys that were to be distributed by the Chenango County Toys for Tots.

Officials say the call came in around 8 o'clock Friday morning. When they arrived on scene, first responders found smoke pouring from a building holding 40 storage units at The Storage Center.

Crews had to use saws to open the door on all 40 units in order to ventilate and put out the fire.  Five area departments responded to the blaze and crews spent most of the day on the scene.
