Following the first Girls' Soccer State Title in school history, the Oneonta Yellow Jackets and their fans can now set their sights on next year, and their chances at a repeat.
This year's team beat the Marcellus Mustangs 2-1 on Sunday in Cortland. Senior Mariah Ruff scored the tying goal in the second half. Including Ruff, Meg Burns is the only other player from this year's squad that will be graduating in June.
That means, of the 16 players on Head Coach Jerry Mackey's roster, he returns 14 of them. Having that many returners with state title experience, can only help Oneonta's chances of going back-to-back, but as Mackey says "soccer is a funny game."
