Local baseball legend Steve Kraly honored in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY -- It's been 60 years since former Binghamton Triplet and New York Yankees pitcher Steve Kraly won the World Series. On Wednesday night, he was honored for the anniversary of that championship.

After the ceremony, Kraly took some time to reflect on his career. The pitcher was part of a league-leading staff with an ERA of just over three, and the Yankees' title in 1953 was their fifth in a row.

Kraly had a tremendous career but says it's not just all about talent in the major leagues. He gave some advice to the stars of today.

"Without the fans, a ball player is nothing. I hope the modern day ball players understand that. I remember in the B-Mets stadium, when I was inducted into the Hall of Fame there, I said to each dugout, 'Remember one thing: without the fans, you're nothing,'" says Kraly.

Speaking of the fans, one of Kraly's biggest fans is his late wife. On Wednesday night, the former Yankee dedicated his award to her memory.
