'Jackets get revenge on Saints; Bobcats cruise to Section Title

NORWICH -- A pair of Section IV Champions were crowned in girls' soccer at Norwich high school Friday night.
In Class B, after tough regular season matchups against Seton Catholic Central, the Oneonta Yellow Jackets beat the Saints 2-0 for a return to the state playoffs. For Oneonta, they successfully defended their Section IV Class B Title.
Oneonta Senior Mariah Ruff said after the game that they had been hoping no one else would beat Seton, so that they could be the ones to knock them off.
In Class C, the Lansing Bobcats expanded on a 2-0 halftime lead to take down the Unatego Spartans 5-0 for the Section title.
Broome County Executive Announces Lung Cancer Diagnosis
Broome County Executive Debbie Preston announced today that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer.
Preston has been in office since 2012.
In a statement, Preston said she has no plans to stop working and that she feels great both physically and mentally.
Preston went on to say, "I've never backed down from a fight in my life. I've won some and I've lost some. But I've certainly won more than I've lost. And this fight against cancer is one that I intend to win."
