B-Sens win big over Crunch 6-2

BINGHAMTON, N.Y.  The Binghamton Senators cruised to a 6-2 victory after hitting the interstate tonight for their first of a home-and-home series versus East Division rival the Syracuse Crunch.  Despite being outshot for the first time this season, Nathan Lawson lead Binghamton with 40 saves off 42 shots. 

Mike Hoffman started the night for the B-Sens 7:05 into the opening period with his first goal of the season. Chris Wideman and Mika Zibanejad picked up the assists helping Hoffman beat Crunch goaltender Cederick Desjardins.  With less than four minutes to go in the opening period, Syracuse was able to tie the game on a power-play goal from Vladislav Namestnikov.  Lawson turned aside six of the seven Crunch shots in the first period while Desjardins stifled five of six B-Sens chances.

The second period brought 22 shots on goal for the Syracuse Crunch.  Lawson was able to corral every Crunch try except for Nikita Kucherovs power-play goal at the 8:18 mark.  From there it was all Binghamton scoring three consecutive goals to end period.  Buddy Robinson managed his first of the season at 9:43 off assists from Matt Puempel and Stephane Da Costa.  Exactly one minute later, Ben Blood added his first tally of the year to put the B-Sens back on top.  Mike Hoffman added his second marker of the evening at 15:28 to send Binghamton back to the locker room up two goals going into the final period.

Syracuse had plenty of great scoring chances during the third period, however, Lawson played phenomenal throughout shutting the door on all 13 shots faced.  Andre Petersson started off the final period scoring off Widemans third assist of the night at the 4:43 mark.  Matt Puempel put away the game on a great two-on-one shot off a cross ice feed from Da Costa with just under six minutes to go.

Lawson played tough in route to his third starting victory, definitely earning his number one star of the night nomination, allowing only two goals off 42 shots by Syracuse.  Cederick Desjardins dropped to 0-2 for the season after allowing all six Senators goals on 20 shots.  The Crunch were able to go two for five on their power play chances while the B-Sens only capitalized on their first chance finishing one for three.
