BU's Reed AE Preseason All-Conference selection

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton sophomore guard Jordan Reed has been selected to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced Tuesday. Reed joins Mark Dave Coley and Jameel Warney of Stony Brook, Mark Nwakamma of Hartford and Brian Voelkel, Vermont on the five-man team, which is voted on by the conference head coaches.

Reed had a huge freshman year for head coach Tommy Dempseys Bearcats. He led the America East in rebounding (9.5 rpg.) and ranked second in scoring (16.6 ppg.) - the nations only rookie to finish in his conferences top-2 in both statistical categories. During the regular season, he led in scoring and rebounding - the only freshman in the leagues 34-year history to achieve that feat.

Reeds school-record and America East-best 13 double-doubles ranked 21st in the country and he was the only player 6-foot-4 or smaller to appear in the top-100 rebounders in the country (he was 27th). He ranked second in rebounding and sixth in scoring among the nations freshmen.

Postseason honors included being named a Mid-Major Freshman All-American by CollegeInsider.com and being chosen as the America East Rookie of the Year by both College Sports Madness and College Hoops Daily. America East coaches afforded him Third Team All-Conference and All-Rookie honors.
Jordan is being acknowledged because of a tremendous freshman season, Dempsey said. He is excited to build on that and help this program start winning.

Reed scored 20 or more points seven times and produced the third-highest points total in BUs Division I tenure (466 pts.). His rebound total (266) shattered the school record, as did his season average (9.5).

Reed is the fifth Binghamton player in the last 10 years to receive preseason all-conference honors. He joins Nick Billings (2004-05), Andre Heard (2005-06), Mike Gordon (2007-08) and Greer Wright (2010-11).

The Bearcats open their 2013-14 season with an exhibition game against Bloomsburg on November 2 at the Events Center. Bingthamton then welcomes Loyola for the regular-season opener on November 8.
