Owego Community Members Mourn Loss of Ed Franz

The Owego community is mourning the loss of a man who served it for over 50 years--former Fire Chief Ed Franz.

Franz passed away from brain cancer on Friday. Along with being a volunteer firefighter he was a part of the emergency squad, dressed as Santa Claus for children members of the fire department, and he worked at Estey, Munroe and Fahey Funeral Home.

John Loftus, a long time friend and volunteer firefighter, says that there were many things that made Ed Franz such a good person.

"All the little things, all those things that people might remember individually. And it's something that we're lacking in this world today in our communities are people like Eddie, and what they do with their life, and their dedication to the community," said John Loftus of Croton Hose Company #3.

Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home in Owego.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Owego.

Memorial donations may be made in Franz's name to the Owego Fire Department training facility fund.
