Fugitive Taken into Custody in Endwell

US Marshall's, State Police, and the Bomb Squad were just some of the law enforcement on scene at 3410 Luther Street Friday afternoon.

Parts of 17c in Endwell were blocked off and residents living near by were told to evacuate their homes.

Broome County Sheriff David Harder says they learned 23-year-old Jeffrey Blunk could be inside the home with weapons and a grenade.

Blunk was wanted in Illinois in connection with possessing explosives and methamphetamine.  Authorities suspect he had been living on Luther Street for the past three months.

"We've been digging into it for about a week and narrowed it down to this location and the house is surrounded and we put a call into him to come out and surrender which he did," said Harder.

Harder says they found some questionable items inside the home; small devices and the materials to make methamphetamine.

Many residents were let back into their homes shortly after he was taken into custody as the bomb squad searched the residence.

"I don't think there's any real danger now particularly with the gas off.  Any explosions are going to be small devices," said Harder.

New York State Police from Watertown will go through the home Friday night to determine whether he was also operating a meth lab.

Blunk was arraigned in Town of Union court and is in the Broome County jail without bail.  He is charged in connection with the possession of a homemade explosive device. Officials say they expect more charges to be filed.
