BU Grad to compete in World Ironman Triathlon
10/10/2013 (Updated 10:54:44 PM)VESTAL, N.Y. While many of his fellow alumni cross country and track teammates will make their way to Homecoming this weekend, Adam Quinn will be 5,000 miles away in Hawaii. He wont be there for a relaxing vacation. Instead he make his first appearance in the World Ironman Triathlon Championships.
A 2012 graduate who was a three-time all-conference selection in track, Quinns schedule on Saturday consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a full 26.2-mile marathon. He heads into the event having won his 18-24 age group at the Lake Placid Ironman Championships during the summer.
Quinn is now in his second year of medical school at Stony Brook. During his undergraduate career at Binghamton, he excelled just as much in the classroom. A 2009 National College Honor Society Inductee, Quinn was named the America Easts Mens Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012.
Quinn also helped Binghamton win the 2009 America East cross country team championship. Individually, he was a top-15 finisher three consecutive years at the conference meet.
There is no surprise that Adam made the World Ironman Championships, Binghamton head cross country coach Annette Acuff said. Hes one of the most intelligent and toughest runners ever to go through our program.
