Consumer Sentiment Down, Private Sector Jobs Up
10/9/2013 (Updated 10:59:57 PM)The government shutdown in Washington could be having an effect on consumer sentiment here at home.
A new Siena College poll finds overall sentiment is down in eight of nine regions in New York state, including Binghamton.
Binghamton's third-quarter score of 66.4 points is down 1.5 points from the second quarter of this year.
Plans to purchase cars, furniture, and major home improvements dropped in Binghamton this quarter.
Meanwhile the number of private sector jobs in New York state is rising.
The state added over 7,600 private sector jobs during September according to to the ADP Regional Employment Report. The largest growth occurred in trade transportation and utilities jobs where 3,460 jobs were added.
Natural resources mining and construction jobs also grew by 1,680 jobs.
