Jon "Bones" Jones Lead Plaintiff in UFC Lawsuit Against NYS
10/2/2013 (Updated 10:55:45 PM)The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and Endicott native Jon "Bones" Jones is the lead plaintiff in a UFC lawsuit filed against the State of New York.
The suit challenges the state's ban on professional MMA bouts.
A judge has ruled that the lawsuit may proceed, despite the objections of the Attorney General's office.
A U.S. District Court has ruled that the plaintiffs' are correct in arguing that the ban violates the first amendment's guarantee of freedom of expression, by being overly-vague.
Vague, because the state has allowed amateur bouts, while prohibiting professional events.
Jones has fought UFC championship fights in new jersey and Toronto, but hasn't been allowed to fight professionally in New York.
