Public Input Wanted in Street Light Study

The Binghamton Department of Public Works says they want to hear what residents think about removing several traffic lights at intersections around the city.

As we've reported, the city is studying replacing lights with stop signs at more than 25 intersections due to changing traffic patterns.
DPW is currently studying nine intersections and the traffic board has already voted to remove the lights at Leroy and Saint
John Avenue as well as the one at the Conklin and Telegraph intersection based on data from the study.  However city council has yet to approve their removal.

The deputy commissioner of public works says residents concerns are an important part of the study.

"We're in a little but of a pause with our study to make sure that we understand the community input and sentiments and see how we proceed for this juncture," said Patrick Torrico, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Public Works.

Each intersection will be studied for four months.  To weigh in on the study, call the department of public works at 772-7021 or visit cityofbinghamton.com.
