Siena Poll: More New Yorkers Opposing Fracking
9/30/2013 (Updated 11:01:16 PM)When it comes to fracking, the largest plurality ever is opposed to the drilling process, according to a Siena Poll.
The survey shows 45% of New Yorkers oppose the state lifting the moratorium on the drilling process, while 37% support it.
Pro-frackers say Governor Cuomo and other state leaders haven't done a good job educating people on fracking.
While anti-frackers say people are starting to educate themselves.
"It's hard to say what's going to have an impact on Governor Cuomo. It looks as though he's not listening to anything. He said he wanted to listen to science and facts and we know he's not doing that. We know he's not looking at what the national leaders are saying. President Obama is saying it's safe," said Scott Kurkoski, attorney for the Joint Landowners Coalition of New York.
"People are doing their own research outside of the 30-second clips that industry is so happy to provide that show happy people, smiling farmlands, happy cows, and everything else. New Yorkers realize that's actually not the reality of this heavy industrialized process," said Isaac Silberman-Gorn of Citizen Action.
Just last month, 42% of New Yorkers opposed fracking, and 41% supported it according to the Siena Poll.
