People Come Together for a Road Rally to Help Victims of Sexual Abuse
9/28/2013 (Updated 11:32:56 PM)People from all over came out for a city-wide scavenger hunt, Saturday in Binghamton to raise money for a local charity.
The Healing House hosted it's first Road Rally, starting at Lourdes Hospital. Cars were led on a hunt to find clues that would lead them to a secret location for a reception. That location was McGirks Irish Pub. The Healing House was founded in March and helps people in the community who are sexually abused.
"We're gonna raise a lot of awareness about sexual abuse. I think right now we still, even though it's been changing over the years, I think we still have a taboo feeling around it. People don't like to open up and talk about it. I think by having us here, and the response that we've gotten from our community already is showing that just by having somebody here to listen and say, 'yes we believe you and we're gonna help you', makes that a little bit easier for people to come forward and talk about it," said Amy Petrick, President and Founder of Healing House.
The organization hopes to raise twenty thousand dollars from the day's event in order to continue helping the community.
