Late goal forces Bearcats to Double OT tie

VESTAL, N.Y.  Marcel Maddee scored with 12:25 left in regulation as visiting St. Peters (1-4-2) tied Binghamton (2-4-2) in a non-conference mens soccer game at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Tuesday night. The Bearcats winless streak reached three games and they have now failed to hold a second-half lead in as many outings.

After a scoreless first half, junior forward Steven Celeste scored his second goal of the season in the 47th minute. Junior midfielder Ben Nicholson played a ball to senior forward Marts Reid-Warden, who was one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Rather than shoot, however, Reid-Warden passed the ball to Celeste, who fired it into the empty net.

Maddee, however, answered 30 minutes later with his second goal of the season. Luke Fairlamb passed him the ball through the center of the box and Maddee one-timed it into the net.
The Peacocks held a 3-0 shot advantage in the first overtime. Binghamton, meanwhile, dominated the final sudden-death period with a 4-0 shot advantage. In the end, the shots wound up tied at 12-12.

I thought it was a very competitive match but we are disappointed not to have come away with the win, head coach Paul Marco said. I thought we played well enough in the first half and in the overtime to have three points instead of one.

In goal, sophomore Stefano Frantellizzi finished with five saves.
Binghamton hosts St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
NOTES: Reid-Warden now has a goal and an assist in the past two games  both of Celestes goals have come at home.
