Tree Planting in Memory of Couple
9/20/2013 (Updated 11:08:04 PM)Wallenberg Park in Binghamton received new trees Friday in memory of the couple the park was named after.
Fritz Wallenberg and his wife Marrianna co-founded the Symphony and Choral Society in 1955, now known as The Binghamton Philharmonic.
Family and friends raised the money for the seven new trees which they said is a symbolic way to remember the couple.
"Their roots were developed into humongous beautiful trees as the Wallenbergs were the roots of our cultural community," said Connie Sternberg of Owego.
Family and friends got the idea to plant the trees while they were at a tribute dinner for the Wallenbergs last year.
They worked with master gardeners in the area to complete the project.
