Former Newark Valley Teacher Awarded 3.5 Million After Lawsuit

A three and a half million dollar award to the former Newark Valley High School teacher and coach who was terminated when her then boyfriend, Todd Broxmeyer, a field hockey coach, was convicted of sexual misconduct with female students.

Lindsay Wilcox, shown here in file tape with her lawyer, attorney Ron Benjamin of Binghamton, was fired by school administrators whom Benjamin says were trying to come out "smelling like a rose," by using Wilcox as their scapegoat.

He says Wilcox  was a popular teacher with a spotless record and was made guilty, by association because she was living with Broxmeyer at the time.
Atty. Benjamin says,"...you had a teacher who had glowing recommendations, both as teacher and coach, going all the way back to when she was in high school.  Kids just loved her, that's why when she was terminated, they protested, they refused to change their gym clothes, then sent a petition around the school.  Well, from that day on , February 8th, was her last day teaching as a teacher, until today, she has not been able to get a job as a teacher."

Wilcox sued for slander, saying that school administrators  falsely claimed that she had agreed to resign--making it appear that she had knowledge of Broxmeyer' s criminal activities--and that she might have  been involved.

Word of the judgement came down late Wednesday afternoon.

Fox 40 has not yet been able to obtain comment from the school district.
