Economic Development Council Decides on Hot Spot
9/10/2013 (Updated 6:50:07 PM)The Southern Tier Economic Development Council designated it's official innovation hot spot Tuesday.
Co-chair and Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger says the state requested all 10 regions come up with a physical location where funding would go to develop ideas, bring entrepreneurs together and create start-up companies.
The Southern Tier Council has decided on a "virtual hot spot." Stenger says staff would be based at Cornell but would travel between the areas three incubators.
"The Binghamton Incubator will focus on smart energy, natural and health care devices. Cornell certainly in the area of life science and agriculture and food processing and the one at Corning on glass and high temperature materials," said Stenger.
The state will approve five hot spots in November.
