BU Republicans Endorse Drazen

A Republican running for Binghamton mayor picked up an endorsement Monday.

Douglas Walter Drazen accepted the support of the leadership of the Binghamton University college Republicans. Drazen says the students have injected youthful enthusiasm into his campaign just before primary day. The students say they're supporting Drazen because of his plan to improve the city to make it a more attractive place to stay after college.

"We're going to need someone who wants that to happen, who gives an environment for that to thrive. That gives an environment for us to be here for not just four years but 40 years," said Darin Mihalik, President of BU College Republicans.

"(We need to) attract individuals, families, and businesses to the city to help strengthen and broaden the tax base. And I think these young people are a resources that we need to tap into, that we need to harness," said Drazen.

Drazen has twice run and lost as a third-party candidate. He is running solely as a Republican this year.
