Local Firefighters Remember Victims of 9/11
9/8/2013 (Updated 10:54:53 PM)Binghamton firefighters Benevolent Association held it's 3rd annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Sunday at Binghamton's State Office Building.
The climb is held in honor of 343 FDNY firefighters and all others who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Hundreds of people, including firemen from all over took part in the climb. Participants wore a badge with the names of people who died, and rang a ceremonial bell in their honor.
"We're just here to do it and finish. We're doing 110 stories and some of us are doing it in teams, others are doing it on their own, but to finish the climb that 343 didn't get to finish. and this is are way of honoring them and remembering them," said Chris Mallery.
The first memorial stair climb was started in 2005 by five firefighters of the Denver Fire Department.
The Binghamton stair climb is currently the only 9/11 memorial stair climb in New York State.
