River Gauges to Stay in Place
9/6/2013 (Updated 9:08:24 PM)The two year anniversary of the 2011 flood is Sunday and in an effort to better prepare for future flooding, 21 lake and stream gauges slated to close in October will stay open thanks to a new round of federal funding. This according to Senator Charles Schumer.
The funding will keep six gauges dispersed between the Susquehanna, Tioga, and Chemung Rivers through at least 2014. The other 15 gauges have secured long-term funding through 2014 and beyond. The funding effects a number of gauges in the Southern Tier including those in Binghamton, Vestal, Owego, and Windsor.
