Annual Mudcat Golf Tournament Raises Thousands for Local Charities

Thursday was the perfect day for the Annual Jim Mudcat Grant Golf Tournament. Dozens of golfers teed off at the Link at Hiawatha Landing for a good cause. The tournament goes back twelve years when Grant and Security Mutual joined forces to raise money for charity. Golfers like Al Gorick of Binghamton say they come back each year to participate.
"I think it's a great event," he said. "I think it's a very worthwhile cause they put this on for and I think it's tremendous that all these past athletes and all stars come out to support the community."

Professional baseball players and celebrities help support the cause. Gina Casey is a former female all star who has been coming for nine years and says she enjoys meeting the children of the charities.
"It's kind of exciting to see these kids and some of them ask good questions and some of them are a little bashful," she said. "But it was really great to be there with them."

The golf tournament benefits four local organizations who say they rely greatly on those proceeds.

"It's very important the proceeds of the event. for every dollar of proceeds Chow's able to put four meals out into the community," Michael Leahey, the director of Chow said.
The tournament is organized by a committee that meets during the summer months. It raises about nine to ten thousand dollars for each charity.
