BU Cross Country sets realistic goals for 2013
8/23/2013 (Updated 7:08:38 PM)VESTAL -- The Bearcats Cross Coutry squads will host the 2013 America East Championship meet on November 2, which gives BU an advantage since both the men's and women's teams train on the BU nature reserve trail regularly.
Annette Acuff coaches both squads, but on the men's side, she thinks the team can make some noise this season.
Acuff says, "Our goals for this year are to try and place ourselves back up into the top three in the conference. I think we've got a good opportunity to be able to do that."
Adds senior and Binghamton native Vasili Papastrat, "We can't get in over our heads here. We're just going to try and keep everything under control."
The men bring in some top notch new talent in freshman Eric Holt. He won the mile at the New York State Outdoor Meet in June, setting the ninth fastest high school time in state history at 4:07. Coach Acuff says he could be in the men's top 5.
Fellow recruit on the women's side Eileen O'Hara won the girls 15-hundred at that same match, and she too, could play a significant role this year.
"We've got a real strong newcomer, Eileen O'Hara, that was one of the top high school seniors from last year in New York State. I think you'll see her in our top five for sure if we can keep her healthy. We've got a really young team, but a lot of maturity," explains Acuff.
The women's team finished fifth in the conference last season.
