Pro-Frackers Happy With Cuomo's Remarks

Jubilant is how pro-fracking forces are describing their reaction to Governor Cuomo's remarks Monday that areas that have allowed hydrofracking have seen an economic boost.

The remarks came during a radio interview which discussed, among other things, President Obama's planned visit to the state on Friday.

During the interview, Cuomo  said that Mr. Obama's support for new domestic fuel sources, including hydrofracking, is "inarguable" in terms of economic and energy benefits.

Cuomo added that "every area that has participated in fracking will tell you it's increased commercial activity, and has an economic boost effect."

"I think the governor has finally opened up his eyes to the economic benefits of drilling. I think the statement he has made is going to open up the eyes of may people in the Broome County area who are looking to make a living," said Vic Furman, field representative for the Joint Landowners Coalition of N.Y.

During the interview, Cuomo also stated that what's still open to question is whether those benefits outweigh potential environmental damage.

Furman says all studies have shown that fracking is safe, health wise, and in terms of the environment.
