Group effort to decide Jets Starting QB

(Source: Jeremy Donovan)

CORTLAND -- Since Mark Sanchez was selected 5th overall in the 2009 draft, there has continually been a debate over who should start at quarterback.  First it was veteran Kellen Clemens or Sanchez; then Sanchez or Tim Tebow, and now it's Sanchez or rookie Geno Smith.

After last season's notorious "butt fumble," and continuous playoff disappointment in the eyes of the Jets fan base, many are ready for the Smith era to begin.  But as the 39th pick of the 2nd round in this year's draft, the question is whether or not Smith is ready.

Once again, the quarterback position is the popular debate at Jets Camp in Cortland, but first year general manager, John Idzik, says the choice of who will sit atop the depth chart will be a group effort.

Sanchez took the majority of the snaps under center last year, throwing for 2,883 yards.  In his senior year at West Virginia, Smith threw for 4,205 yards.  Not to be forgotten, Greg McElroy climbed the depth chart last year, bypassing Tebow and eventually Sanchez, and surprised fans with his late season starts.
