Traffic Lights Could Be Eliminated at Some Binghamton Intersections
7/26/2013 (Updated 10:42:26 PM)That study of how many traffic lights might be removed from intersections in the City of Binghamton will continue for awhile.
The intersections include East Clinton and Washington Street. The plan is to eliminate lights at certain intersections where traffic has diminished.
Officials say several hundred thousand dollars could be saved.
"In fact we have a few controllers that we can't even find parts for. We're at a position now where we have to do something we have to update those signals. A controller and a cabinet for the controller just those two pieces were in excess of $10,000," said Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Patrick Torrico.
The study for signal removal could extend up to another year and a half. A total of 25 intersections are being studied.
