Binghamton Mayoral Candidate Plans to Combat "Brain Drain"

Peventing brain drain in Binghamton.  That's what mayoral candidate Ed Hickey says he plans to do if elected.

Hickey says the city needs to promote itself as a place where young professionals can stay and work.

The Republican says if he were elected he would hire young innovative professionals to work in city hall and that there are currently jobs available in Binghamton but taxes are pushing people out of town and kids are seeking a better quality of life .

"The jobs, there's jobs.  I'm a big believer that people can find jobs if they want to and it's a very low cost of living. We can become a back office system for law firm in New York City, accounting firms all over the country. It's a computerized age and we need to start utilizing that to keep our town popular," said Mayoral Candidate Ed Hickey.

The lone Democrat in the race,Terri Renia, released a statement in response to Ed Hickey's comments on reducing brain drain.  She says she knows firsthand the importance of retaining a quality workforce in the area and that is why she chose to create several high-tech businesses in Binghamton with a need for young professionals.
