Top prospects shine in Futures Game

FLUSHING, NY -- It may not be as elegant as the All-Star Game, as electric as the Home Run Derby, or even as fun as the Legend and Celebrities Softball Game.  But every year, the Futures Game gives the fans a look at the top prospects that will soon be Major League All Stars.

The USA defeated the World by a score of 4-2.

Two pitchers who pitched on NYSEG Stadium's mound this year took the mound at Citi Field to start Sunday's game. Former B-Met and current Las Vegas 51, Rafael Montero, got the start for the World Team and it took him only nine pitches to get through the top of the first unscathed.  Then it was Noah Syndergaard's turn.  Starting the game for the USA, the B-Mets righty was equally as impressive.  Syndergaard did give up a hit, but kept the game scoreless.

Prospect outfielder Brandon Nimmo, likely a future B-Met, entered the game in the 5th inning.  He went 0-2 at the plate with a lineout to the shortstop and grounded out to the second baseman.

Former B-Mets who have played in the Futures Game in recent history are Jose Reyes, Fernando Martinez, and David Wright, among others.

Wright, who was named captain of the New York Mets this year, was also named NL Captain for the Home Run Derby, which takes place Monday night.  The All-Star Game will be played at Citi Field on Tuesday at 8:00, which you can watch right here on Fox 40.
