TCGA Amateur Golf Tournament Day 1

JOHNSON CITY -- The TCGA Golf Tourament, which has been going on since the 1920s, began on Friday at Traditions.

69 golfers will participate in the three-day, 54-hole tournament.

Mayor Matt Ryan of Binghamton participated on Friday and the rest of the 2013 field looks impressive.

Returning champion Mike Dalton and two-time amateur champ Jake Sladish are part of this year's tournament, as is Thomas Hackett. Hackett, the President of the Triple Cities Golf Association, won in 2010 and is hoping to get back to elite status.

"It's important because this year I put in a little extra practice. Last year I think I had range balls two or three times. Played a good number of rounds, but it's important to be able to play against amateurs because it's a big difference if you're hitting balls 6-7 days a week and it's your job," said Hackett.

Saturday's rounds will be played at En Joie Golf Club, and at Binghamton Country Club on Sunday.
