Fresh Farm Produce To Binghamton Neighborhoods
6/28/2013 (Updated 10:53:34 PM)Some City residents enjoyed fresh off the farm produce in their dinner Friday night thanks to Binghamton's Farm Share Around the Corner program.
Boxes of produce were given out to residents in the City's Northside Friday afternoon. The pilot program was started to give families who live in neighborhoods without grocery stores or farmers markets a way to eat healthy.
"This is a way to bring more food access in this neighborhood. It's at several locations throughout the Northside which makes it a little easier to get. We've heard from residents that they're really excited that we're distributing right around the corner from where they live," said Farm Share Coordinator Rebecca Heller-Steinberg.
Farm shares will be held at the Roosevelt Elementary School, Carlisle Apartments and Tabernacle Untied Methodist church on Friday afternoons.
The program is being funded by the State, Healthy Urban Food Enterprise Development Center and the City's Community Development Block Grant.
