Candidate for Binghamton Mayor Spells Out Five-Point Plan

The lone Democrat running for Mayor of Binghamton says she has a five-point plan to improve public safety in the city.

Teri Rennia laid out her vision in front of the site of the old Lincoln Hotel, which was destroyed by fire June 6th.

Rennia says that fire highlights the need for a professional department in the city.

Her plan includes a pledge to not reduce any positions in the fire and police departments, work with groups to increase community policing, address juvenile justice needs, and seek grants to support these programs.

"I would certainly like to continue looking for other sources of revenue. Certainly the more sources of revenue that we can find the easier it will be to maintain these levels. I'm not saying it's going to be easy. It's not. But I'm committed to doing it," said Rennia.

Two Republican candidates for mayor responded to Rennia's plan Tuesday.

Ed Hickey said during her time on city council Rennia should have addressed these issue prior to her mayoral campaign.

Rich David said during Rennia's time on council she has seen police personnel drop from 148 to 120.
