BU athletes shine academically

VESTAL, N.Y.  The America East Conference has released its 2013 Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and a conference-best 191 Binghamton student-athletes appear on the list. The America East Academic Honor Roll includes all student-athletes who attained at least a 3.0 GPA for the semester that their sport was in season. Sixty-two percent of all eligible Binghamton student-athletes made the cutoff.

This marks the eighth consecutive year that Binghamton has posted the most selections on the America East Spring Academic Honor Roll. Each time, at least 60 percent of all eligible student-athletes made the list.

Binghamton also led the conference with 90 student-athletes named to the America East Commissioners Honor Roll. This list includes all student-athletes that attained at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Two Binghamton teams had the most Honor Roll selections in their respective sports during the spring semester, both of whom also captured the America East championship. The mens tennis team posted 10 selections while the baseball team had 16 honorees.

The mens tennis and baseball teams also had the highest percentage of Honor Roll selections in their respective sports (with 80 and 63 percent). Also posting the highest percentage in its sport was mens swimming & diving (69). In addition, the mens basketball team tied Albany for the highest percentage in its sport (50).

The America East Honor Roll marks the most recent in an impressive list of academic news for Binghamton this spring. The collective student body recorded a 3.10 GPA for the spring semester, marking the 15th straight semester it has reached the 3.0 mark. Furthermore, 195 student-athletes (47 percent) were named to the Spring 2013 Binghamton Athletic Directors Honor Roll for attaining at least a 3.3 GPA during the semester.
