Maurice Anthony Guilty of 1st Degree Murder

Tears and relief. That was the reaction of family members of Eric Dantzler as a jury convicted Maurice Anthony of 1st and 2nd degree murder, as well as two counts of robbery, in connection with Dantzler's death in 2010.

Anthony shot Dantzler in the victim's S-U-V during a robbery on Corliss Ave in Johnson City.

"I just wanted justice to be served. My family wanted justice to be served. And you know, now my brother can finally rest in peace,"  said Dantzler's brother Ahmed Hairston.

Maurice Anthony's phone was at the scene of the crime, and witnesses from Broome County Jail testified to have heard him talking about him killing Dantzler.

"Yeah we were very confident. And I think anytime there's a jury, obviously it's the jury's decision and we respect their decision no matter what it is, and I don't want to speak for Mr. Shapiro, but I think we'd agree that we felt very confident," said Senior Assistant District Attorney for Broome County, Peter Delucia.

The defense declined comment. Sentencing will take place September 18th. Anthony faces a maximum of life in prison. For Dantzler's family their life will never be the same.

"Everything, like simple things remind me of him and just makes me smile and makes me think of him and laugh and just remember the funny person he could be and would be and the amazing person he could be and would be," said Dantzler's sister ShaKiyla Barkley.

"You know he's always in our thoughts and our hearts and that's something Anthony can never take away," said Dantzler's mother Marnita Johnson.
