Anti-Fracking Groups Present For Cuomo's Visit
5/30/2013 (Updated 11:00:38 PM)These days, you can be pretty sure that any local appearance by Governor Cuomo will attract unwelcoming committees--composed of anti-fracking groups.
On Thursday, activists who oppose the drilling practice made their presence known at Binghamton University before and after the Governor's speech.
Their message to Cuomo: don't frack in New York State.
"This is our health and our community's well-being at stake. You need to protect us. We do not want fracking in our community. We have gone door-to-door. We have put forth hundreds and thousands of people-hours knocking on doors, talking to our neighbors," said Isaac Silberman-Gorn of Citizen Action.
"The decision is a big one and it should be made on the science and the facts, not on the emotion, not on the politics. The DEC Commissioner and the Health Commissioner are analyzing the data and when they have a decision that will be the question and the path the state follows," said Cuomo.
After his speech Thursday, Cuomo called fracking the most polarizing political issue he has experienced.
