Endicott Police Merging with County's Sheriff Department?

Is the future of the Endicott Police Department in jeopardy?
Talks to merge it into the Broome County Sheriff's Office are in the preliminary stage.
Endicott Police Chief Michael Cox says that the situation has become an issue due to the financial consequences caused by the Huron reassessment and the loss to the village's tax base.
He says that the department already provides the best possible service for the lowest cost.
"What changes is the responsibility that the department has to the residents. You're taking that level of control away from the local municipality and giving it to the county level," said Endicott Police Chief, Michael Cox.
The Endicott Village Board will vote on whether to continue looking into this merger next month.
The plan as it stands now would be to have Endicott Police Officers stay in Endicott but become employees at the sheriff's office.
