NFL Legend Joe Namath speaks to BU Baseball team

VESTAL -- The BU Baseball team got quite a treat on Tuesday afternoon when NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath spoke to the team via Skype.

The Superbowl champion is friends of Jake Thomas' family and took the time to encourage the Bearcats as they gear up for the NCAA Tournament. The legend told the players that the only thing they have to worry about is their own preparation.

"There are two different kinds of nervous energies to me, that I learned. One is negative and that only comes when you're not ready. Convince yourself you're ready. Don't worry about what's going to happen. Enjoy it, man. Just eat it up," said Namath.

BU will face NC State on Friday night, the sixth-best team in the country. So often the mantra heard from coaches is to believe, but to hear about being an underdog from someone like Namath was an experience both players and coaches will never forget.

BU pitcher Jake Lambert said, "We all have our own doubts about  where we are and going against the teams we're going to go against. To hear from somebody like that that we can do it, it definitely helps gives us the confidence that we need."

Added head coach Tim Sinicki, "Those are not empty words he just spoke to our guys. They have a lot of meaning. They were from the heart, and I think the sincerity of it all probably really got through to our guys."

The Bearcats and the Wolfpack will play Friday at 7 PM.
