Winning Cars by Choosing Not to Drink and Drive After Prom

Local SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) are doing their part this prom season to keep their peers safe.

This is the 24th consecutive year Don's Automotive Mall and Gary's U-Pull It have joined forces in supporting the SADD chapters of Windsor and Chenango Valley high schools.

Each year they donate a car for the Post Prom Party at each school.

Over the weekend, the senior class at Windsor High School held their prom and post prom party.

Senior, and SADD chapter president Isma'il Griffin won a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta.

Griffin said winning the car was a great surprise since he didn't already have a car, and though he wouldn't be able to get one for a few more years.

"It felt like a dream.  I was in shock.  I couldn't believe I won.  I was wicked happy that I won," said Griffin.

"When I pulled in to Windsor with the car this year, it was during the lunch periods.  The kids came out, and everybody was looking through the windows and asking questions.  You can just feel the excitement when the car pulls in, and they see it and know they have an opportunity to win it," said Gary's U-Pull It Manager Stephen Barkwell.

Chenango Valley's Senior Prom will be this weekend.  CV's SADD chapter president, Miranda Currier, said the chance to win a car is a big draw to the post prom party.

"It's so exciting to us, because the car brings a lot of people to post prom.  Every kid that comes to post prom isn't drinking and that is so exciting.  That nice of a car just makes more people want to come," said Currier.

One lucky Chenango Valley Senior will have a chance of winning a 2006 Dodge Caliber.

The winners are drawn randomly from a raffle at the end of the evening.  Only students who stay for the entire post prom party are eligible to win the prizes at the end of the night.
