Assemblywoman Weighs In On Corruption Cases
5/10/2013 (Updated 10:41:23 PM)For years, a debate has raged in New York and across the country about the corrupting influence of campaign contributions.
In the past several weeks, there have been multiple arrests of state politicians-- drawing more attention to the problem.
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo says some politicians have developed the pay to play mentality, accepting campaign funding if they promise to file certain legislation.
Lupardo says enforcing stricter laws could help reduce corruption in Albany.
"It's important that we put in place, whether it's at the local level, state, federal, as many provisions to try to catch this activity as early as we can. That's why our focus in the state at least is on finance reform campaign- on campaign level. So we can perhaps try to take some big money out of the picture and that's not easy," said Lupardo.
Lupardo went on to say the public shouldn't have to doubt the integrity of the public officials they elect.
