B-Mets no-hit in 3000th game

BINGHAMTON, NY - The combination of Paul Demny and Ian Krol combined to throw a no-hitter as Harrisburg topped the Binghamton Mets, 6-1, Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Demny got off to a shaky start; in the first inning he hit a batter and walked another, but escaped the inning unscathed. After that, he settled in nicely on the mound. He retired seven in a row until he walked Allan Dykstra in the fourth, and only allowed a runner to reach second base twice in the game. His night ended after eight innings; he struck out five, walked three, and threw 113 pitches. Ian Krol then threw a perfect ninth inning to finish off the game.

On the other side, Harrisburg got their offense going right away against B-Met starter Jacob deGrom. After a throwing error by Francisco Pena on a bunt attempt in the first inning, Anthony Rendon doubled in a run. He came around to score the next batter, as Jerad Head singled to left field to make it a 2-0 game. They scored another unearned run in the second inning on a Dykstra throwing error.

In the sixth inning, the Senators busted the game wide open. After Jimmy Van Ostrand doubled and Sandy Leon was intentionally walked, Ricky Hague doubled down the left field line to knock in both runners. He then scored a batter later when Demny helped himself out with an RBI double. deGrom's night ended after 5.2 innings. He gave up six runs on nine hits and was tagged with the loss. He is now 0-4 in five Double-A starts this season.

Binghamton scored their lone run in the seventh inning. After Dykstra led off with a walk, he moved to third base on a throwing error by Demny. With runners on the corners, Francisco Pena grounded into a 3-6-1 double-play, which allowed Dykstra to come home.
