Hire Our Heroes; Helping Veterans Find Jobs

Hiring our heroes, that was what local businesses aimed to do Wednesday while at the Binghamton Armory.

The New York National Guard and the New York State Department of Labor has joined with federal agencies the American Legion and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to hold career fairs for veterans.

The unemployment rate for veterans was around 7% at the end of 2012.

The Hire Our Heroes career fairs held across the county aim to reduce that statistic.

"They want to target those that have those military skills.  They have that leadership, they have that sense of duty, they have that dedication.  That's something they want in an employer," said Kathy Poyntol, Events Director for Hire Our Heroes

"It's not so easy looking for work when you get out. The adjustment is difficult, so I think it's a great  opportunity to get employment and network also," said Steven Bosa, Marine Core Veteran.

Veterans who missed out Wednesday can visit, submit their resume and it will be sent to all the businesses who were at the fair Wednesday.
