U-E Schools Honored For Healthier Options
5/6/2013 (Updated 10:57:56 PM)it's no secret that Broome County is among the most obese areas in the country. On Monday, one school district was awarded for it's fight to change that.
As part of first lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" initiative, four Union-Endicott elementary schools were awarded for their committment to offering healthier menu items, providing nutrition education, and allowing time for more physical activity.
"Definitely means a lot, given those statistics, to know we're at least a small part to avoid or to help that epidemic and to do what we can while they're at school to prevent those things from happening," said Tom Nunn, food services director.
Ann G. McGuiness, Charles F. Johnson, George F. Johnson and Thomas J. Watson elementary schools were all received bronze level honors.
