2013 Greater Binghamton Bridge Run Draws Thousands

BINGHAMTON -- Thousands of runners came out to race in the Greater Binghamton Bridge Run Sunday.  Each runner had their own story.  For some, the race was a chance for the community to showcase their pride. Others ran to honor the city of Boston, nearly one month after that city's marathon bombings.

"When I run, I think how lucky I am that I can," runner Sarah Emond said.

Sarah Emond came all the way from Boston.

"We were really excited to get our 'Boston Strong' tattoos," Emond said.

The heat didn't stop anyone from hitting the pavement, both young and old. And this year's event will benefit local children healing from serious illnesses.

"It's so rewarding to help the children out and what a beautiful day we have here," said runner Ron Abless.

Runners say they hope the course inspires others to see Binghamton in a different light.

"It shows the best that Binghamton city limits has to offer.  The structure, the architecture, the businesses, the community.  This is a place to raise your family, start a business, go to school.  It's got it going on," said runner Brian Nayor.
