Oxford Rod and Gun Club Hosts SAFE Act Discussion
5/2/2013 (Updated 10:43:28 PM)When the State of New York recently passed the SAFE Act gun control legislation, both praise and criticism began almost immediately.
On Thursday, at the Oxford Rod and Gun Club, there were a lot of gun-owners, hunters, and sportsmen who had lots of questions over confusion aspects of the law.
New York Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, who largely opposes the legislation, was on hand to try to clear up just what some provisions of the law means, such as what kinds or guns are now illegal, what are the restrictions on magazines, and ammunition, and what rights to self-defense does the SAFE Act include?
After the session, many who came were more convinced than ever that the law was hastily enacted.
"The law was not thought out. They didn't get civilian input, they didn't get police input in order to set up these things," said Allan Youngs, President of the Oxford Rod and Gun Club. "Get out there and vote for your representatives. They are the ones that are helping preserve your freedoms."
Assemblyman Crouch says many of the provisions of the Safe Act merely duplicate gun restriction already on the books and some of the others, are unnecessary.
