Binghamton Police Holds Award Ceremony

Binghamton police officers who went above and beyond the call of duty were honored at city hall Thursday afternoon.

The mayor and police chief handed out 16 certificates of recognition.

Awards went to officers who responded to armed robberies and made speedy arrests, recovered drugs, and responded to calls of shots fired.

Some officers were recognized a number of times for different actions throughout the year.

"Right place, right time. Like I said, everybody does a great job. It's just being at that situation at that time," said Patrolman Ben Conklin.

"It's important that police officers be recognized every day. As I said they go out there everyday 24/7, do a good job, prevent a lot of crime, catch a lot of bad guys and keep this community safe. And they don't get the recognition they deserve," said Binghamton/Johnson City Police Chief Joseph Zikuski.

David Wrobleski earned one of the three certificates awarded to civilians. Wrobleski helped police capture a suspect who robbed the Hess Mart on Vestal Ave in Binghamton.
