Blog: Bones Jones wins, breaks toe

April 28, 2013

NEWARK, NJ -- In the early morning hours on Sunday, with his foot wrapped and iced, Jon Bones Jones stepped to the podium to discuss his fifth straight successful title defense.

It's six in a row for the reigning Light Heavyweight Champion, who also set a new record for consecutive wins in the light heavyweight division with nine.

The fight itself ended quickly -- a first round knockout. With about thirty seconds remaining in Round 1, the fight was called in favor of Jones.

In the ring, during the post-fight interview, Jones suddenly realized that he had broken his toe. He was later diagnosed with a compound fracture and after the press conference, was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

After Jones left, UFC President Dana White fielded questions about Jones possibly taking on Anderson Silva, who is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. White said that Silva has called to request a fight, but would not say whom he requested.

Around 4:30 AM, Jones tweeted a photo of his foot, with his left toe stitched up. FOX 40 will keep you updated with additional information as it becomes available.
