Weis Markets in Vestal donated a $10,000 dollar check to the American Heart Association on Saturday. The two organizations teamed up to provide customers with free blood pressure screenings, body fat analysis, and free healthy recipes. Organization representatives say the collaboration is important for the community.
"Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans, men and women. And yet it's 80 percent preventable. If we can prevent 80 percent of something that's killing us, we need to try. We can do that through a healthy diet, healthy exercise," said Gina Chapman, director of the Southern Tier American Heart Association.
Weis Markets has donated nearly $30,000 to the American Heart Association over the past two years.
