National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
4/27/2013 (Updated 4/28/2013 12:45:29 AM)Local law enforcement are working to make sure your old medications don't end up in the wrong hands.
The Broome County Sheriff's office collected unwanted, outdated, or unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs on Saturday. Residents dropped off hundreds of pounds of medication as part of the "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day."
On Sunday, the DEC will pick up the pills and dispose of them through disintegration. Officials say prescription drug abuse is a problem in the area.
"It's becoming more and more predominant, especially among teenage kids and young adults. It's an easy form of drug for them to receive from other students or to steal from their parents," said Detective John Harder of the Broome County Sheriff's Office.
There is also an drop off box for unwanted or outdated medications in the lobby of the Broome County Sheriff's Office.
