Community Holds Benefit for Luke Slota
4/26/2013 (Updated 10:54:34 PM)He's served his country, and his community, and on Friday night his friends in Johnson City came together to help out one of their one.
Luke Slota, a Johnson City trustee and Afghanistan war veteran has been battling Wilson's disease since last June. Good news came in December when he received a liver transplant.
On Friday, the community came together for a benefit in his name to help offset medical costs.
""I think he's probably one of the best people I've ever met in my life. He's just an outstanding young man. He is so dedicated to his community, his church, his family," said John Walker, Co-chair of the benefit.
"The community here in Johnson City , and just great friends--I can't be grateful enough," said Luke Slota.
More than 70 baskets were donated for a raffle and 500 tickets were sold ahead of time.
